Up at the crack of Toa - tenish. Found a pair of socks without holes and shuffled downstairs in dressing gown. Boiled egg and marmite soldiers for breakfast. Luckily the fire was still just in from the night before. It took some time to coax it back to life with bellows and kindling. Once it was fully alight I had to sit in front of it to make the effort worthwhile. That was the morning gone.
Had a stroll, but too damn chilly so popped into the local for a swift half. Credit not good for any more so dropped into the bookies on the way home. Not much action because of the cold, but still managed to lose a fiver. Enough cash for a tin Heinz tomato and a corned beef sandwich. Lunch back at home in front of the fire. Snoozed on and off during the afternoon, book in hand. Fired up the boiler for a bath, sponged down the suit ready for drinks at Frys in the evening.
Lovely lady lent me 3 bob for a drink. Met a chap, managed to sell the Spitfire, big end still dodgy but never mind - caveat emptor and all that. Nice to have a wad of fivers in the wallet. Things are looking up.
